Why business leaders need cybersecurity training

Cybersecurity is a management responsibility. What an SMB leader needs to understand to make good decisions, without becoming a technician.

Cybersecurity is not just a technology issue. It is a management responsibility. Leaders don't need to configure a firewall, but they must understand enough to ask the right questions and set priorities.

What a leader needs to know

  • What are our most valuable assets? Client data, intellectual property, the ability to invoice, reputation.
  • What are our main risks? Fraud, ransomware, privacy breaches, human error, supplier dependency.
  • Who is accountable for what? Leadership, privacy officer, IT provider, employees.
  • What do we do during an incident? Who decides, who calls whom, when to notify clients and regulators.
  • How do we govern AI? Approved tools, forbidden information, review.

Concrete benefits

A trained leader decides faster and better, can tell a useful expense from a fear-driven purchase, and gets better answers from the IT provider because they know what to ask. They also protect client trust, as clients increasingly ask how their data is secured.

In Quebec, Law 25 assigns responsibility for personal information protection by default to the person with the highest authority in the business. One more reason to get involved.

A short, practical session

Our leadership training lasts two hours and covers governance, business risk, confidentiality, privacy law and internal accountability, with examples from local SMBs. It is included in the Cyberallié Shield and available separately in our training.
